Hainan University

Hainan University is a comprehensive key university established by the merger of the former South China Tropical Agricultural University and the former Hainan University in August 2007. It is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Hainan Province.

The school adheres to the school motto of "All Rivers run into The Sea" and carries forward the school spirit of "Self-improvement, Dedication, Virtue, Perseverance". In December 2008, it was approved by the state as a key university of "Project 211". In 2012, it entered the national "Higher Education Revitalization Plan of Central and Western China" and successively obtained the support of "Basic Capacity Construction Project of Central and Western Universities" and "Comprehensive Strength Improvement Project of Central and Western Universities". In 2017, it was selected as the national "World First-class Discipline" construction university. In 2018, the CPC Hainan Provincial Committee and the Provincial government made an important decision of "pooling the strength of the whole province to run Hainan University well". In the same year, Hainan University became a university jointly built by the Ministry of Education and the Hainan Provincial Government, and was included in the list of universities directly under the Ministry of Education. On April 13, 2018, General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out in his speech at the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Hainan Province as a special economic zone that "We should support Hainan University to build world-class disciplines", which provided fundamental guidelines for the development of hainan University.
Founded in 1958, the former South China Tropical Agricultural University (STCU) is closely linked with the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), which was founded in 1954. It is known as the "double star" in the field of tropical agriculture science and education in China. Through the arduous efforts of "People of Both Houses", China has become the only country in the world to successfully grow rubber in a large area within the range of 18-24 ° north latitude, and has miraculously risen from the original blank country of rubber planting to the fifth largest rubber producing country in the world. The school has thus established a unique position in the field of rubber and tropical agriculture research, and has won more than 900 scientific and educational achievements, including the first prize of national Invention, the first prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award and the second prize of National Teaching Achievements.
