Gansu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine was established in 1978. It was formerly known as Gansu College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 2015, it was approved by the Ministry of Education and approved by the Gansu Provincial People's Government. It was renamed Gansu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
