Hubei Polytechnic University

Hubei Polytechnic University is a general higher education institution with rapid development focusing on cultivating application-oriented talents, with engineering being our strong point. It is located in Huangshi, Hubei, a cradle of modern Chinese national industry. The school covers an area of 1 million 460 thousand square meters, the school building area is 665 thousand square meters. Supported by Qinglong mountain from the back and surrounded by the Ci Hu lake, Hubei Polytechnic University enjoys a beautiful environment, picturesque scenery, and is known as the most beautiful campus.

Founded in 1975, HBPU began to run undergraduate programs first in the year of 1977. Different names have been used through our development, such as Hubei Provincial Polytechnic School, Huangshi Branch of Wuhan Institute of Technology (now Wuhan University of Technology), Huangshi Polytechnic College. In 2004, the university was renamed to Huangshi Institute of Technology. In the year of 2010,  HBPU was in the first group to pass the Undergraduate Programs Evaluation sponsored by the Ministry of Education. In the year of 2011, the university was renamed as Hubei Polytechnic University. In 2016, HBPU was elected the first rotating chairman university of Hubei Universities Applied   Alliance. Among the local universities in Hubei province, HBPU is in the first group to receive the national evaluation of undergraduate teaching quality launched by the Ministry of Education.

HBPU has 21 subordinate schools and 55 undergraduate programs covering 8 disciplines including engineering, science, economics, management, medicine, literature, education and arts. The university boasts 4 provincial-level Key Disciplines, namely Environmental Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Art Theory and Pharmacy. Environmental engineering ranks as the national level distinguishing specialty and national comprehensive reform pilot program. We have 3 Hubei provincial "Jingchu outstanding talents" collaborative programs, 6 provincial experimental exemplary programs, 6 Hubei Provincial Strategic Pillar Industry Project programs, 13 provincial excellent (demonstration) courses.

Our academician expert workstations have been selected as "the expert workstation of Hubei demonstration academician" and "the national demonstration academician expert workstation".

HBPU has a library of 1.131 million books, 19 digital database (including 2.2595 million e-books). HBPU now owns teaching and scientific research equipment with a total value of 169 million RMB. HBPU has 16310 full time undergraduate students and junior college students,183 international students.

HBPU has a teaching faculty of 964 teachers, including 103 professors, 346 associate professors, 242 doctor’s degree holders and 597 master’s degree holders. We have 2 scholars accredited with the 100 talents Project for Innovation, 4 State Council allowance experts, 9 Provincial government allowance experts,12 Chutian Scholars, 6 Distinguished Young Scholars and 4 Hubei High-level Talents experts of the New Century. HBPU has also employed 2 well-known academicians and over 30 influential scholars from home and abroad as guest professors here. Each year, we have a number of international teachers and foreign experts teaching at HBPU.

HBPU has made great achievements in the application-oriented talent cultivation. In the past three years, students have earned 143 national prizes and 427 provincial awards in various competitions in “Internet +” college students’ innovation and entrepreneur competition, mathematical modeling, national electronic design, mechanical creative design and Chinese calligraphy and painting. 34 projects in national college students' innovative career planning program and 82 provincial projects have been approved. More than 190 college student start-up companies have been cultivated and incubated; 126 bachelor's degree thesis have been rated as excellent, the enrollment rate of HBPU students' taking postgraduate entrance examination has been on the rise and it is higher than the average level of non-'211' universities in Hubei province. The initial employment rate of our graduates holds above 92%, and the university has won provincial advanced collective awards several times for its outstanding employment work. The innovation and entrepreneur base has been accredited “Nation-level Creative Space”, the first batch of “Provincial level Double Creative Model Base” approved by Hubei provincial government, the first batch of “Hubei College Students’ Entrepreneur Model Base” approved by Hubei provincial department of education, the first batch of “Hubei College Students’ Entrepreneurial Incubation Model Base” and “Provincial science and technology business incubator” approved by Hubei provincial department of science and technology.

Adhering to running an open and cooperative education，HBPU has co-constructed three non-independently subordinate schools with local governments inside and outside of Hubei province, national science & technology parks, and well-known domestic enterprises. Two non-subordinate clinical schools were founded with local medical groups; a “3+2” application-oriented talent interconnecting education model has bee developed with inner-provincial vocational and technical colleges on three specialties. Nearly 20 research institutes and development centers have been founded with enterprises across the country. The university has co-cultivated 63 full-time doctors and postgraduates with Wuhan University and Wuhan Textile University. HBPU has established close academic communication and cooperation with more than 20 universities and research institutes in countries and regions as Canada, USA and New Zealand.
